Those Were The Days, My Friend…

Clearing out a load of old files from the computer, I stumbled across this.

It somehow makes more interesting reading now than it did at the time, a bit like reading a love letter from someone who ended up braining you with a rolling pin a few months later.

If nothing else it should serve as a salutary reminder that the welter of “What Does 2009 Have In Store For Us?” features that are about to force everything else out of the headlines really aren’t worth the paper they are written on.

In Kargin’s case, if he wrote his speech with a Mont Blanc pen on some nice Basildon Bond paper, that is probably true in a literal sense, having sold his stake in the bank for 1 lat less than 8 months after the oration above.
